CHETTINAD
This is an area of southern Tamil Nadu. The villages of Chettinad are famous for their highly embellished 19th century houses. These grand houses reflect the prosperity of their wealthy merchant owners. If you would rather be based in a village or country area and do your sightseeing from there, then Chettinad will give you access to both Tanjore and Madurai as it is about half way between them (approximately 2 hours each way).

Note: Chettinad food is also famous in South India and again, reflecting the wealth of the people, is very much meat based. Vegetarians are catered for but we recommend you tell us before you depart so that we can inform the hotel in advance.
