TRAIN TRAVEL

India also operates some luxury trains. A luxury train
offers guests an individual cabin in a specially designed
train and enables them to visit places of interest along the
route. It is it bit like a cruise on rails and is a great
way of seeing some of the more remote places in comfort and
without the need for long car journeys and a lot of packing
and unpacking. The first luxury train operating in India was
the Palace on Wheels which operates in North India. The
popularity of this train has encouraged more and now there
are a number of luxury trains operating across India. In
Southern India the Deccan Odyssey occasionally offers a
route that includes Mumbai and Goa, but is more often
operating under the name of Indian Maharaja and offering a
great itinerary between Mumbai and Delhi. For more details

The Golden Chariot train operates in South India. It has two
7 day schedules both starting and finishing in Bangalore.
One travels through Karnataka visiting Mysore, Kabini (Nagarhole
National Park), Hassan (for Sravanabelagola and the temples
of Belur and Halebid), Hospet (Hampi), Gadag (for Badami,
Aihole and Pattadakal) and Goa.Our Sales Consultant Gary
Tree took this trip in March 2010 - for his view of the tour
see his
BLOG. The
other - called Southern Splendours - travels through Tamil
Nadu (Chennai, Mahabalipuram, Pondicherry, Tanjore and
Madurai) and Kerala (Kovalam/Trivandrum, backwaters and
Cochin).
