GOLDEN CHARIOT – HAMPI – A RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL HOLIDAY
This tour includes two World Heritage sites and takes you on a journey on one of India’s wonderful luxury trains – The Golden Chariot. The tour starts at a beach in North Kerala and then takes you to Karnataka where you visit Coorg, the national park at Nagarhole and the sandalwood city of Mysore before joining the luxury train. You then have four nights aboard the Golden Chariot visiting Hassan (Belur and Halebid), Hampi, Pattadakal and Badami. You disembark at Goa for a few days relaxing at the end of the holiday.

DAY 1
Arrive Calicut Airport. Meet and transfer to Bekal. Two nights at Lalit Bekal Resort.

DAY 2
Relax at the beach. There is an old fort at Bekal so there is time to visit this if it interests you.

DAY 3
Transfer to Coorg. Two nights at Orange County – Coorg.

DAY 4
Coorg is a beautiful, rural coffee growing area with its own culture (including its own language and even the way the women wear their saris is different).

DAY 5
Transfer to Nagarhole. The National Park at Nagarhole is 640 sq km and the forest is moist deciduous providing thick jungle, excellent habitat for a variety of wildlife. Evening - vehicle safari into the park. Two nights at Orange County – Kabini.

DAY 6
Full day at Nagarhole. Two safaris are including in the cost. Other activities may be arranged locally.

DAY 7
Take a final safari into the park before departing for Mysore. We will take you to places that are not included as part of the train schedule, which we anticipate will include the magnificently carved Keshava temple at Somnathpur, Chamundi Hill with its huge stature of Nandi (Shiva's bull) and Mysore Market. Overnight at The Green Hotel.

DAY 8
Transfer to Mysore Railway station to join the rest of the passengers on the Golden Chariot train. Day 3 of the train itinerary. Sightseeing in Mysore including the Maharaja's Palace and the Lalitha Mahal Palace where you will be entertained by a cultural show followed by dinner. Four nights aboard the Golden Chariot luxury train.

DAY 9
Day 4 of the train itinerary. Depart Mysore for Hassan. Morning sightseeing at Sravanabelagola, afternoon sightseeing at Belur and Halebid.

DAY 10
Day 5 of the train itinerary. Arrive Hospet and transfer to the world heritage site of Hampi for sightseeing. Visit Virupaksha Temple, Queen's Bath, Elephant Stables and a local crafts bazaar before returning to the train for lunch. After lunch return to Hampi and visit the Royal enclosure, Hazara Rama Temple and Vittala Temple.

DAY 11
Day 6 of the train itinerary. Arrive at Badami and after breakfast visit the Badami Caves the world heritage site of Pattadakal. Return to the train for lunch and then proceed to Goa.

DAY 12
Arrive Goa. Depart train and transfer to your accommodation. Three nights staying at Siolim House.

DAYS 13 - 14
At leisure.

DAY 15
Transfer to Goa Airport for your flight home.

Suggested adaptations to this tour

Golden Chariot – Hampi tour £3,754.00
  • The prices given are based on a typical high season price. During the peak season the rates will be higher; during the summer they may be lower.
  • The prices above are per person based on two people travelling together and sharing a double/twin room.
  • Please note that our prices do not include the costs of international flights to and from the destination. Airfares are on application.
  • Prices for single occupancy, more than two people travelling together, adaptations to the suggested tours and tailor-made tours on application.
  • Add a visit to Tranquil in the Wayanad district of North Kerala.

  • Cut out the beach in North Kerala and fly to Bangalore.

  • Spend longer in Mysore.

  • Instead of staying in Goa remain on the train and return to Bangalore.
