Unfortunately the large population coupled with the
mountainous terrain means that few golf courses are to be
found in South India. A number of the golf courses in the
region were started by the British Tea Planters and are
therefore in tea growing areas.
There is currently only one 18-hole course in Kerala
(Munnar) but it is only open to the local tea planters and
residents. There are a few 9-hole courses but mostly not
open to non-members.
Tamil Nadu has a few 18-hole golf courses open to visitors
including two in the Chennai area, one at Kodaikanal,
Coimbatore and a very scenic one at Ooty.
Karnataka has a number of golf clubs and there are a few
18-hole courses that welcome visitors including a few around
Bangalore and one in Mysore.
