The islands and atolls of the Republic of Maldives are situated in the beautiful turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The archipelago consists of 26 atolls sustaining 1,192 islands. Only 300 are inhabited; approximately 200 islands are lived on by local people and around 100 have been developed as tourist resorts (with more on the way).

The Maldives with their white coral sand beaches and clear water lagoons are a great place to relax after a tour of South India. They are also well known for great snorkelling and SCUBA diving. There are daily flights to Malé from Trivandrum in the south of Kerala.
