BANGALORE
Bangalore (or Bengaluru as it is now called) is a
cosmopolitan city and Karnataka’s state capital. It is
large and sprawling and, with a population of almost 8
million, is one of Asia’s fastest growing cities. India
is the second largest exporter of computer software and
much of this is developed in Bangalore, helping to boost
the city’s wealth.
Bangalore has a new international airport to the north
of the city. A large number of airlines fly to Bangalore
(some of them direct from the UK) so it is a popular
starting or finishing point for a holiday to South
India.
Note: currently there are no hotels close to the new
airport. We are sure they will come – but until then you
must expect to travel into the city. Many guidebooks or
websites may state that the hotel is close to the
airport, but this is most likely to be the old airport. |
